What Is A
Raynor Massage?
Massages are given at a relaxing massage studio space in Brighton

Raynor Massage is a deep tissue massage technique that works on a deeper level than a regular sports massage. It has a simple aim – to find and release tension from the body utilising a range of traditional holistic therapies from diverse cultures around the world. It seamlessly blends these therapies in a way that is unique to every client, providing an intuitive, considerate, and thorough holistic therapy. It combines elements of deep tissue massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, yoga, manipulation, and head massage.

Raynor Massage evolved through the work of Brandon Raynor, a highly trained Naturopath Practitioner, who developed his bodywork system to support the muscular, skeletal, and subtle energy flow systems of the body.

A key to its successful delivery for The Talented Masseur is meaningful engagement with the client. Understanding what effect pressure is having on the body, and working to the right level of manipulation to release tension, and restore a sense of well-being and relaxation throughout.

“The experience was the most calming and relaxing I have felt in years.”

My first experience with massage, apart from attending an osteopath prior to this for manipulation, and have to say the experience was the most calming and relaxing I have felt in years.

Terry was kind enough to explain to me the process he would go through to help relieve the stress and pain through my shoulder and lower back. After an hour of massage and gentle manipulation, I am pleased to say that he had managed to relieve the aches and pain I was feeling.

ABOUT

“It felt like he was working on a much deeper and holistic level throughout.”

Terry put me at ease straight away with his calm and professional approach.

The space itself is beautiful too - light airy and modern, with exceptional detailing for relaxation.  The massage was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. It wasn’t just about relaxing muscles, but something for the mind, body AND soul. It felt like Terry was working on a much deeper and holistic level throughout. I’ve clearly been completely out of alignment—physically, mentally, and emotionally as, by the end of the session, I felt lighter, clearer and genuinely more balanced.

His skill, intuition, and attention to detail are exceptional. Sensory perfection from start to finish!

FAQ
Frequently
Asked
Questions
The use of aromatherapy oils and deep tissue massage tools enhance the massage experience.

How can I book an appointment?

You can make an online booking for your appointment with The Talented Masseur on the BOOKING & PRICES page.

Can I get a massage at my home or hotel?

Yes, in addition to appointments at the studio in central Brighton, evening and weekend appointments are available within a reasonable traveling distance from the centre of Brighton.

A travel supplement of £15 will be charged for a call-out appointment (included in the price shown).

Can I cancel/reschedule an appointment?

Yes, but please get in contact at least 24 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule a booking. Otherwise, unfortunately you will incur a 50% cancellation charge for your scheduled treatment.

What if I am unwell?

Please do not come in for a massage if you are currently feeling sick, for whatever reason. Please wait until at least 48 hours after your symptoms disappear. If necessary, reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance.

What is the protocol with keeping on my clothing/underwear?

The use of oils in contact with the skin during a massage means it is more practical and comfortable to be undressed down to your lower underwear (or completely if you prefer and feel comfortable). Draping is provided, of course, and your modesty and personal comfort will be always prioritised.

How about if I have a health condition?

You will be asked to fill in a short health questionnaire during your initial consultation. Most health conditions can normally be accommodated, but please ask your GP or health consultant in advance, if you are in any doubt at all, to seek their agreement.

What can I expect to happen in my first massage session?

Completing the health questionnaire will provide an outline of your general health and fitness and any disclosed health issues which may be affected by the massage. The therapist will discuss any areas of concern that he can focus on, so that you get the best out of your massage. This initial consultation will form part of the appointment.

Where on my body will I be massaged?

Raynor Massage is a full body therapy (excluding genital areas) with a focus on the head, hands, feet, and stomach area, as well as the full limbs and back. You will be draped throughout the massage to keep you warm, with areas exposed for massage only. Women should note that the breast area will not be massaged and will remain fully draped throughout the treatment to ensure your comfort and privacy.

Will the massage be painful at any point?

Raynor Massage is a deep tissue technique. If you have areas of deep-rooted tension, there may well be some discomfort as work to remove the blockages is completed. The level of pressure that may be used will be discussed before the treatment begins and the therapist will always work within your own personal comfort zone. During the treatment, he will regularly check to ensure that you are comfortable with the pressure being used, so that you can feel the full benefit afterwards.

How will I feel after the treatment and the next day?

You may feel instantly re-energized after the treatment, or relaxed and occasionally sleepy. Raynor Massage will release toxins that have been held within your muscles, so drink plenty of fresh water after the treatment to help flush these toxins from your system. Alcohol and caffeine should be avoided for the rest of the day if possible.

The day following a massage you may feel a little tender in areas where you had tightly held tension which was released. This is a perfectly normal reaction and nothing at all to worry about. Any feeling of soreness will soon abate.

What are the benefits of massage as part of my sports training?

Raynor Massage therapy is applied through a different approach to other massage styles. It treats the entire body as it works in conjunction with the body’s own healing mechanisms, enhancing circulation and speeding recovery from activity, training, or injury. Massage for any sports enthusiasts (or gym/aerobic activity) is most beneficial when done as a routine part of training. The reasons for this are that massage therapy can: aid in eliminating lactic acid; allows more blood and oxygen to circulate into your muscles; improve muscle flexibility and range of motion; loosen contracted muscles; help reduce the risk of injury through deep tissue massage and stretching; and help shorten the recovery time after training or workouts.

How does having a Raynor Massage help remove residual tension?

Residual tension in the body is usually evidenced through persistent muscle tightness.

It can also be aggravated by emotional stress, and that can affect the whole body.

Ancient belief is that bands of energy, often referred to as meridian lines, flow throughout the body to the outermost anchor points of a person's hands, feet and head.

Massaging these anchor points can help release tension back to affected areas, providing relief from muscle tightness and the release of emotional stress.
